How to start with camping in Colombia?
Searching for camping info in my country, I found about some prohibitions and other limitations that make this practices some difficult, I mean hunting, bushcraft and even to do some campfire...so sad. But in some places is still possible practice fishing and do campfire and that's a thing at least.
Starting by this point, when the camping place is a estate, it is possible to practice bushcraft, fishing and camping. Then, in order to be a camper over here it's extremally important to find a place where we can live a survival situation without brake any rule, most of the times. Well, that's the where.
Now, the basic equipment. I was passing a lot of time watching and reading about camping and bushcraft on web. If I correct, the main tool to carry on a expedition is a knife, a bushcraft knife, or survival knife that provide as with the ability to craft shelters, and wood tools to make our "hideout" in the woods.
To make fire it's really useful a firerod. Some firerods come included with knifes or axes, that's useful! But if we cannot have a firerod as an option is priority learn to make fire with a drill bow, that we can do it using the knife, some wood sticks and fibers.
As minimal equipment a tarp can replace a camping tent but for people who wants more enjoy and less survival the camping tent is essential. A great camping tent, or tarp, shouldn't be colorful. A great camping tent needs to be low-profile to bled in with the environment. Colors like army green, dark earth, brown or black are great choices.
Complementary to the tent is the sleeping bag, we can use a warm weather sleeping bag, or even just a lightweight cotton blanket because the temperature at night in tropical forest and plains are not to low.
If you want, you can buy a sleeping pad but a foam mat could be less expensive and isolate you pretty well to the ground.
Now we have the fire and the "hideout". We still need some equipment to cook some food. A titanium cup could be a little expensive but titanium is lightweight, rustproof and gets cool fast.
With the knife and fire it's possible to make a spoon or chopsticks. We can buy a spoon/fork or spoon/fork/knife to carry with us all the time too.
Since we cannot hunt and fishing is not always effective or available, it's important to carry with us our food, like military rations or canned food. Some basic stuffs could be rice and canned tuna, beans, chili!, etc. Cans may be use to cook after it's empty, to make candles or torches, hooks, etc. Don't forget carry with our trash!
Obviously, a flashlight is essential, hopefully waterproof, but a hand crank flashlight is a great choice to an emergency use or just to save batteries.
Some rope, paracord or survival cord 550 could be, a fishing rod, or hobo fishing reel, or at least the line with some hooks and lures, a waterproof poncho and axe are useful tools to carry with us.
At this point is important to have a backpack but not a big hiking backpack, just a medium size backpack where we can pack all the above stuff, and some bushcraft tools maybe, as waterproof, tough and lightweight as possible.
